Sadie Sink’s parents: All about her family and upbringing

Sadie Sink’s character in Stranger Things, Max, has a frosty relationship with her family. Sink and her stepbrother, Billy Hargrove, have a strained relationship that worsens throughout the series until Hargrove passes away at the end of season 3. However, in this case, art doesn’t mirror reality: Sink has a great relationship with her family.

In May 2022, she spoke to Vogue from her parents’ house in New Jersey, saying: “I love it here. Being an actress, I feel like I’m traveling and jumping around from place to place. It’s nice to have a family home to come back to.”

Sink’s mother fostered the actress’ passion for acting by enrolling her in theater school

Sadie Sink was born on 16th April 2002 in Brenham, Texas, to Casey and Lori Sink. Casey, Sink’s father, is a rugby coach, and Lori is a math teacher. Despite being born into a sports-oriented family, Sink had no interest in sports: she loved performing arts.

Lori recognized Sink’s talent after watching her recreate High School Musical scenes alongside her brother Mitchell. Sink performed for the first time in a local production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.

“I was in the baby angel ensemble and I only had one life, so I was kind of just standing there,” Sink told Vogue. “But I remember loving it like nothing else.”

Sadie later landed the lead role in a community theater production of The Secret Garden despite being too young to audition. “It was then that I decided that I wanted to stick with this, and do it properly,” Sink said.

Lori enrolled Sink in a theater school in Houston, where casting agents discovered her. After landing the titular role in a Broadway production of Annie, the family moved to New York City to support Sadie. “My family has always been supportive of me and my career,” Sadie told Glamour. “Theater was such a big part of my life growing up.”

Sadie grew up alongside three older brothers and one younger sister

Sadie grew up alongside three older brothers – Mitchell, Caleb, and Spencer- and a younger sister, Jacey. Sink explored her acting dreams alongside Mitchell, who also showed interest in performing arts. Mitchell and Sink were fascinated by Broadway and joined community theater together. Sadie told Vogue:

“Mitchell and I had this gravitation towards performing arts—musical theater, specifically. We could always be found in the back room streaming Broadway bootlegs on YouTube or watching Tony performances. It was just this weird obsession that we shared.”

Sink became way more successful than Mitchell, but he’s still acting. The pair appeared in Taylor Swift’s All Too Well music video. Sadie told Glamour that Mitchell is her best friend:

“We’ve obviously known each other my whole life and we trust each other, and we’re open and honest with one another. That’s super important to me. It’s a very special bond.”

Jacey, the youngest Sink sibling, also seems interested in acting. She played the younger version of Max in an episode of season 3 of Stranger Things
