6 Essential Habits of Stylish Suit-Wearers

Suits might be the clothing style that society has decided makes men look their best, but that does not mean that you can just sling one on any which way. There are right and wrong ways to wear them. Fortunately, wearing a suit the right way is not particularly complicated. It is more or less just a collection of habits that many people are unaware of, but once you know what they are you can easily train yourself to do them.

Once you have learned them, you will start to notice them in stylish men everywhere, from those who always look well put-together in everyday settings like the office to suave spies running around on the silver screen. Here are the habits you need in order to become a stylish suit-wearer.

Tying your tie so that it’s the right length

There is a lot to get into with ties and all the different types of knots you can use. They are a topic of their own that we will not get into here, so instead here is a simple habit to always follow when you are wearing a suit with a tie – tie your tie so that its tip touches your belt. This is the Goldilocks length for a tie as it is not too long nor too short.

Not matching your pocket square to your tie

If you are wearing a pocket square, it should complement or contrast your tie, depending on the effect you want to achieve. One thing that it should never do is contain the same pattern or be made of the same fabric.

Getting your suits tailored

In the world of fashion, wearing a cheap suit is forgivable. After all, not everybody has money but people should be encouraged if they want to look their best. But what cannot be forgiven is an ill-fitting one. Tailor made suits in Sydney and other pricey places are great if you can get them, but even just having your suits from more affordable stores professionally altered can make a world of difference to how good they look on you.

Only fasten the upper jacket buttons

Whether you are wearing a single or double-breasted suit, never fasten the bottom button. The only exception is if you are wearing a jacket that only has one button.

Unbutton when you sit down

On the topic of buttons, get into the habit of unbuttoning your jacket when you take a seat. This will preserve its shape nicely and prevent creases from forming on the front.

Match your belt to your shoes

This goes for your watch too, if you are wearing one with a leather strap. Do not mix the colours. If you are wearing brown shoes, wear a brown belt and watch strap. Wearing a contrasting belt and shoes just creates a clash that can throw off your whole look.

Conclusion

Even if you only wear suits for job interviews and weddings, it is always worth looking your best, especially when it takes so little effort to do so. Just training yourself in these handy habits will help your suits look better on you regardless of their quality.
