Aftercare Guide of Tattoo

Aftercare for Tattoos Is Important
While getting a tattoo can be an exciting and fun experience, it is important to remember that aftercare will play a vital role in how your tattoo looks over time. Aftercare instructions are important to follow. Failure to do so can result in infections, fading, and dissatisfaction.
Immediate Aftercare Steps
Your artist will wrap your tattoo in a bandage immediately after it is completed to protect it against airborne bacteria. Once you have removed the bandage, follow these steps:
- Wash Gently: Use lukewarm, fragrance-free water to wash the tattooed areas with clean hands. Do not rub, just pat dry the tattooed area with a soft towel.
After drying the tattoo, apply a thin coat of ointment recommended by your tattoo artist or an aftercare product designed for tattoos to protect and moisturize the area.
- Keep It Covered: Re-cover the tattoo if necessary with a non-stick, clean bandage the first night. This will prevent it from rubbing on bedding or clothing.
Daily Care Routine
Establish a daily routine in the days after your tattoo to promote healing and avoid complications.
- Wash & moisturize: Gently wash your tattoo with mild soap & water, 2-3 times per day. Be sure to pat dry afterward. Apply a thin coat of the ointment recommended by your artist.
- Avoid excessive exposure to water while healing your tattoo (e.g. swimming pools, hot tubs, baths). Also, minimize exposure to direct sunlight.
Long-Term Care Tips
Aftercare is important to keep your tattoo vibrant and long-lasting.
- Stay hydrated: Drink lots of water to maintain the appearance of your tattoo.
- Protect your tattooed skin from the sun by applying sunscreen (SPF30 or higher) before exposure to sunlight. This will prevent UV damage and fading.
- Monitor signs of infection: Be on the lookout for redness, swelling, or pus, which may be an indication of an infection. If you experience any symptoms that are concerning, consult your tattoo artist or healthcare professional.
